PYP Inquiry Unit: Who We Are: Community of Learners. The central idea is: People bring their cultural and personal beliefs to a community of learners. We wrapped up our discussion about values this week by sharing our family values homework. Thank you for helping your child with this assignment, they all had very thoughtful things to say about their families and what they value. Students also revised their original ideas about values based on our classroom discussions. You can see some of what we have done on SeeSaw. We started to discuss "What is culture?" at the end of this week and will be delving deeper into the discussion next week.
Math: Students began working in iReady, an adaptive online learning tool, on their beginning of the year diagnostic assessment. Most students finished and have moved on to lessons that are tailored to their specific learning needs. We will be using iReady this year as part of our daily math group rotation.
Reading: Students started reading groups this week and are working on reading strategies, nonfiction text features, and comprehension in the different groups. Students have also been assessed using the Independent Reading Level Assessment and are working on reading chapter books at their independent reading level during silent reading time.
Writing: Students wrote a paragraph about Fall last week that will be used as a baseline writing assessment. We will be working on informational and opinion paragraphs over the next few weeks before starting narrative writing.
Social Group: We are working on friendship and perspective taking skills and will continue to do so through the month of October. We have class game time on Thursdays for an opportunity to practice our skills.
